Waterborne epoxy MIO intermediate coating (2K) for barrier enhancement between primer and topcoat.
Bridges, chemical plants, municipal and power steelwork.
0.15 kg/m² at 50 µm; pot life 3 h.
Water-thinned 5–15%; recoat 24 h–7 d.
Overview
Two-component waterborne epoxy micaceous iron oxide intermediate coating for enhanced barrier protection between primer and topcoat.
Composition
Waterborne epoxy resin dispersion and curing agent with micaceous iron oxide, anti-rust pigments, functional fillers, and additives; supplied as Part A & Part B.
Typical uses
Intermediate layer between primer and topcoat to increase total film thickness and improve barrier properties for heavy-duty protection of steel and concrete in bridges, chemical plants, transport, municipal, and power industries.
Technical data (typical)
Appearance: grey or brown.
Density: 1.6 kg/L.
Theoretical consumption: 0.15 kg/m² at 50 µm DFT (loss not included).
Drying time (25°C): surface dry 1 h; hard dry 24 h; full dry 7 d.
Application data (25°C)
Application methods: spray, brush, roller.
Pot life: 3 h.
Thinner: clean water, recommended 5–15%.
Recoat interval: min 24 h; max 7 d.
Surface preparation
When applied over two-component primers: surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contamination; if exceeding maximum recoat interval, pre-coat must be roughened.
When used as first primer: blast to Sa 2.5 or power-tool clean to St 3 with 30–75 µm profile.
System compatibility / packing / storage
Construction conditions: ambient 5–35°C and at least 3°C above dew point; not suitable in rain, fog, snow, or RH ≥85%.
Storage: dry, cool, ventilated; 5–35°C; avoid strong sunlight; no outdoor storage.
Shelf life: 6 months.
